Hibiscus rosa-sinensis

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, double variety
by Gordon Gee, 1956
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis | Tropical Hibiscus, Chinese Hibiscus, China Rose

I have dedicated a separate page for Hibiscus rosa-sinensis cultivars. Photos will be added in time, as plants come into bloom. Go to: http://hibiscus-malvaceae-rosa-sinensis.blogspot.com

This botanical illustration is the work of Gordon Gee who for 18 years worked at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens as a sign writer. Gordon was employed at the Gardens from 1956 to 1974. During this time he prepared many thousands of labels for plants throughout the conservatories and grounds of the Botanic Gardens together with descriptive signs depicting plants of special seasonal importance. His skill as an artist was recognized and he was encouraged to produce drawings and paintings of specimens at the Gardens.
